At Unterseher Orthodontics, we believe everyone deserves a beautiful, healthy smile they can feel proud of their whole life long. Dr. Unterseher and our highly trained team of orthodontic specialists work hard to treat every patient individually, designing personalized treatment plans that perfectly suit each patient's unique orthodontic needs. We're proud to provide a wide variety of treatments for our patients, and Invisalign offers a revolutionary treatment alternative to braces without the need for metal brackets or wires.

About Invisalign

Invisalign is an exciting alternative to traditional braces, using a series of clear, removable plastic trays - called aligners - to straighten teeth, instead of the traditional metal brackets and wires. The aligners are virtually invisible when worn, so no one has to know you're straightening your teeth, and you can easily pop them in and out to eat, drink, brush, or floss - meaning you can still enjoy all your favorite foods and maintaining proper oral hygiene is as easy as ever. While Invisalign used to be relegated to only mild orthodontic problems, advances in the technology mean it can now treat a variety of malocclusions:

  • Crowding
  • Spacing Issues
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite

The Invisalign Process

The process starts with a comprehensive examination, where we'll create a fully realized 3D computer model of your bite using Invisalign's advanced imaging technology. We'll use this model to create a detailed treatment plan, then create a unique set of aligners that are custom-manufactured to fit your teeth. You'll wear each aligner for about two weeks, and with each new set, your teeth will move closer to their optimal positions. Once you're finished, you'll have a beautiful, healthy new smile to call your own!

Invisalign FAQ

Q. How much should I wear the aligners?

A. You'll wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Q. Do I have to avoid any foods during treatment?

A. No! Because you remove the aligners to eat and drink, you can still enjoy all your favorite foods. Just make sure to brush your teeth and aligners before putting them back in!

Q. Will the aligners have an effect on my speaking voice?

A. As with all forms of treatment, you'll go through a short adjustment period where you might notice a slight difference in how you talk. This will be brief, though, and the more you talk with the aligners in, the faster your mouth will adjust.

Q. Does Invisalign hurt?

A. Some patients report mild discomfort when they put in a new set of aligners, but this usually fades within days and can be treated with over the counter pain killers.

Q. Can I chew gum with my aligners?

A. Gum can get stuck in and damage aligners, so you'll have to take them out to chew gum.

Q. Can I smoke?

A. Smoking can discolor and warp aligners, so if you must, you'll have to remove them to smoke.

Q. How do I clean them?

A. Cleaning the aligners is simple - just brush them with toothpaste the same way you would your teeth every time you take them out or put them in.

Q. How often will I need to come in for an appointment?

A. We'll generally see patients every 5-6 weeks, although that number may change depending on your unique situation.

Q. What happens when I finish treatment?

A. Just like with all forms of orthodontic treatment, you'll have to wear a treatment once the active phase of treatment is over. You're in luck, though - with Invisalign, you can use your last set of aligners as a retainer!

Q. How long will treatment last?

A. This varies from patient to patient depending on the severity of the orthodontic problem, but in general, treatment takes 6-18 months.

Q. Can kids get Invisalign?

A. Sure! So long as all their teeth, including second molars, have fully erupted, children can be candidates for Invisalign.
