Early Care in Cherry Creek & Westminster

At Unterseher Orthodontics we believe that a perfect smile begins at an early age. The American Association of Orthodontics suggests that children see the orthodontist by the age of seven, or at the first indication of an orthodontic problem. Whether a child needs early orthodontic intervention to remedy an existing issue, or they have yet to show signs of a problem, Dr. Ron Unterseher will perform a thorough evaluation to determine what type of treatment is needed. This ensures optimal results at a minimum expense.

Visit Us by Age 7

When a child turns seven, they arrive at an orthodontic milestone. It is at this age that a child begins to establish their back bite with the eruption of their first adult molars. After this occurs, Unterseher Orthodontics can observe the unique arrangement of the child’s teeth from side-to-side and front-to-back. If the child is at risk for developing an open bite, overbite or gummy smile, we can identify it quickly and begin interceptive treatment.

Benefits of Early Care

Through an early evaluation, our experienced orthodontic team can anticipate the best time to start customized treatment. We are also able to catch any problems early on and take immediate action to guarantee amazing results. Prompt intervention helps to foster healthy growth and development, which leads to a gorgeous smile.

Interceptive Treatment Brings Results

Interceptive treatment can be extremely advantageous for many orthodontic situations. Our treatment process can:

  • Minimize the amount of time the child will need to wear braces
  • Minimize the possibility of  trauma to projecting front teeth
  • Reduce the likelihood that the child will need tooth removal
  • Create more room for crowded teeth as new adult teeth begin to erupt
  • Create facial symmetry by assisting tooth development and jaw growth

Treating Malocclusions

The term malocclusion is used to describe a misalignment between the top dental arch and the bottom dental arch when a person bites down. Although malocclusions are common, they can cause health problems if left untreated, according to studies conducted by the American Association of Orthodontists. Malocclusion health risks include:

  • Projecting front teeth can increase the likelihood for accidental chipping
  • Openbites can cause speech impediments
  • Overcrowded teeth make it difficult to floss and brush properly, which can lead to gum disease and tooth decay
  • Crossbites may lead to uneven tooth wear and abnormal tooth growth
